Adapt through diesel and electric traction
Later eras introduce diesel and electric options with different power, operating and infrastructure trade-offs. Electrification is an investment, not a cosmetic upgrade.
Choose for the route
Power, grade, consist, traction supply, wear and running cost determine how a locomotive performs. The newest machine is not automatically the best answer everywhere.
